One of the most effortlessly simple Instagram accounts we have encountered would have to be Soccer Pattern. French Graphic Designer Matthieu Teyssandier delivers a constant flow of classic and contemporary jerseys in sleek vector form.

So tell us a bit about yourself, who is Matthieu Teyssandier?
My name is Matthieu, I’m 25 years old, and I’m from Tours, France. I graduated from the National Superior School of Fine Arts in Bourges. During my three-years of study I acquired a certain artistic sensibility. My experience in fine arts has proven to be very useful to me. I’m currently enrolled in a web design work/study programme and work in an advertising agency. I’m passionate about advertising, art, and design.

What made you want to illustrate all these vector football jerseys?
I’m the biggest soccer fan there is. I love everything about the sport and what it represents. This is where my interest for sports equipment, particularly jersey design, stems from.

One day, out of pure and great curiosity, I started looking online to see what’s being done in the world of jersey design. I quickly realised that there are very few artists, athletes, or graphic designers that work on the subject. Thus, the idea of Pattern came to me quite naturally. I wanted to transform the most legendary football jerseys into minimalist designs, focusing on their logo and patterns, and removing sponsor logos and any other embellishments.

This started off as a personal project that I took on as a source of inspiration to help me develop my creativity. Today, the interest in my work on my Instagram page seems to be growing everyday. I no longer do this just for myself, but for all the other passionate football fans out there!

Your favourite football jersey and why?
My favourite jerseys are, hands down:

The France 1998 World Cup jersey It brings back a lot of good memories of a legendary win against Brazil (3-0) with the greatest player in the history of the game, Zinedine Zidane.

The Germany 1990 jersey, the one the team wore for their third World Cup.  The graphics are amazing and it reminds me of Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer, who was manager at that time.

Future plans for Soccer Pattern, what can we expect?
For now, I’m focusing on creating new patterns and content for my Instagram page. My goal is to represent all the greatest teams with my designs, by following the design history and evolution of their jerseys.

To be honest, ideally I would love to take this project further and create posters, sports paraphernalia, a book… Or even have it lead to other projects. But I won’t say more, you’ll know when the time comes!

In the meantime, I hope to at the very least to inspire football and graphic design enthusiasts, or anyone that’s curious.
